Thanks! I watched a documentary about this exact rafting trip, that is, down the Colorado through the GC; and about how the Colorado River is disappearing due to irrigation. The whole idea was that if you are able to take this trip right now, you should, because it may not exist in its current (diminished) state. Even compared to 60-70 years ago, the trip is vastly different due to lower water levels (this documentary alleges, at least).
Ever since then I have had a burning desire to do this while I still can. I have just always wanted to bring some trees along for the nights, but didn’t know if the river guides would throw me out for it, haha. Not exactly a question listed in the FAQ.
Also, for those interested, the documentary is a 2008 film entitled “Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk”. It was originally IMAX 3D, features an all Dave Matthews Band soundtrack, and is generally a touching movie about both the river and a father spending some time with his daughter before she grows up and goes out into the world. It used to be on Netflix streaming (USA) and the 3D is actually really well done, even on home sets.
