[here is another amazing picture from this region](http://photography.nationalgeographic.com/photography/photo-of-the-day/town-dolomite-magdalena-italy/)
maybe some interesting facts:
a big part of the dolomites are located in the province ‘Südtirol’ wich has a german majority in language and culture and is the richest province economy wise.
even many italians dont know they have a ‘german (dialect)’ speaking province..
edit: ‘many’ italians i met.. this is only a subjective point of view.
if someone wants to know how a part of Austria came to Italy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Tyrol
beeing from Südtirol i would say it became a interesting fusion of cultures with good italian pizza and tasty tyrolean knödel.
edit: picture is taken from val gardena people speak ‘ladin’ there.
