I’ve been to Lake Titicaca several times. It’s a very interesting, yet sad place at the same time. The lake is inhabited by individuals who essentially role-play as their ancestors for tourists, living on a hay / mud stucco platform that’s made one brick at a time, traveling around on boats made of this same material.
However, when you go further into the lake they’re all in these little tin shacks floating on the water, with satellite dishes poking up here and there. It’s nice that the tourists help keep them alive, but it’s clear they do it just as it’s the best means to make money given their situation. It’s all very cool, but somewhat saddening at the same time.
Also, so many stray dogs, I thought for a second I was in India.
Negatives aside, I must say that Peru is one of the more beautiful countries I’ve visited, and their forests / wildlife are unbelievable. Very friendly people too.
