Lightning strikes down in the distance of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona

I will highly advise against it. They have [signs everywhere that state not to try](http://www.kcet.org/living/travel/socal_wanderer/canyon-hot-warning-dead-7-11-14.jpg) as it is quite an exhausting feat.

I only made it to the point in that photo and back. It was very difficult in the heat. I was working for the forest service at the time as a wildfire fighter and hundreds of miles on the trail was something not unfamiliar to me and I still think that was a very rough day.

Just be smart and take it easy. I believe there are places to stay at Phantom Ranch. So take a night to rest before trying to get out.

EDIT: I just saw your comment about having hiked the Bright Angel before. So you know what you are getting yourself into, but I just don’t want to condone on attempting it to a stranger.
