My favourite part of the Canada/Scotland relationship was a guided tour of Banff when we passed through the Banff Springs hotel and the tour guide asked if there were any Scots on board. I said I was and he asked if I had ever been to Ayr and, again, I said I had because I lived close by. He said how proud they were that the hotel was modelled closely after Culzean castle and I just nodded politely. Honestly. Not even fucking close. Apart from the fact that they both contain brick, that was it. I don’t understand why they’d continue saying that when a quite Google search would tell them that they’re wrong. Sad that they seem more proud of their ties to Scotland rather than be more proud of what they’ve achieved over there in such a short period of time.
