I’m curious, is there any sense of shame by society against the people doing the littering? In the last two weeks (In the US – Chicago area) I have shamed two parents into making their kids pick up their litter. One was a Pepsi bottle on a beach just thrown into the water, and the other was a couple of kids hiding Starbucks cups under a car before getting in. I confronted the parents on both occasions, and they both begrudgingly made their kids pick up their trash.
I understand that in most other countries it’s not commonplace, or it’s considered incredibly rude, to address a stranger while they’re going about their business, but if their business consists of shitting up the world with their trash, then maybe it’s the lesser of two rudeness’ to shame them publicly.
