You do realize that every professional photographer that has ever lived edited their photos, right? A camera isn’t some magical thing that captures a perfect image of reality — it’s a mechanism that relies on light being focused through several pieces of glass and projected onto a reactive surface, either film or a sensor. Film is usually heavily edited when it’s being printed, which is good, because if you just took raw film it would be inverted and upside down. It’s common practice to manipulate the projection while printing, by “burning” or “dodging” using sheets and wands. That’s why those tools exist in photoshop.
I know it’s sometimes overdone, but seriously… This sub is quickly becoming (honestly already is) a massive “FUCK YOU PHOTOSHOP LYING CHEAT DUMBASS WHAT A SHITTY PAINTING” circlejerk, and it’s pathetic. If you want to go out, take this picture yourself with a manual camera, and show us you did it perfectly without any editing by uploading the RAW file, go for it. But I’ll give you a heads up: it’s impossible. Cameras don’t work like that. There’s a million tiny adjustments and tradeoffs you have to make, balancing aperture and depth of field with exposure, with the particular quirks of the film, lens, lighting, development and projection, with all sorts of other minute details. Cameras aren’t magical, they just capture light in a useful way. It’s human ingenuity and taste that make a fantastic photo “pop”.
